DAVE OSBORNE, Past President

Dave Osborne

Dave Osborne was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. He enjoyed a 30-year career with the Ontario Provincial Police serving in Nipigon, Nakina, Owen Sound, Peterborough, Millbrook, Thunder Bay and Orillia. He retired with the rank of Inspector in 2011. Since his retirement Dave has volunteered his time with several organizations, many with the OPP.

He was our President from 2014 to 2017, and chaired our major fundraiser, the Pedal for the Past (P4P) during those years.

Because of his strong interest in history, Dave has contributed to several projects and publications related to the history of the OPP and its members.

In 2015, he received his BA degree in History from Laurentian University. He has researched several papers related to the historical perspective of people and events related to Simcoe County, and won a research award from the Simcoe County Historical Association.

On behalf of the provincial OPP Veteran’s Association, Dave was the lead for an editorial team that have now edited over 70 OPP Silent Partner story submissions. These are the spouses of officers who were honoured by the Commissioner for their unpaid service and dedication to the OPP. The Friends will honour this special group of people with a plaque in 2019.

In the years ahead he hopes to organize a research and writing group of OPP history.

Dave is also a director on the Board of the OPP Youth Foundation, Chair of Chapter 18 of the OPP Veteran’s Association, and a member of the history committee at the Orillia Museum of Art and History. Dave is the chair or co-chair for several fundraisers that benefit Friends and / or the Youth Foundation.

Dave has been a member of Friends since 2008 and a member of the Board of Directors from 2013 to 2019.
